| People & Culture |
Recovering from 3 decades of civil
war, the Cambodians are still proud to call themselves
“Khmer”, derived from the word “kambu-ja” meaning
those born of Kambu (a figure of Indian mythology).
Being rich in resources, forests, rubber, gems,
and fish, the country’s economy still depends largely
on agriculture. As the country is opening up to
the outside world, its historic remains miraculously
undamaged by the civil war are attracting visitors
from all over the world. The ancient city fascination
and the friendliness of the people contribute to
the charm of Cambodia; one more exotic destination
in South East Asia that should not be missed. |
